Instructions
Memory Under the Keyboard1.Turn off your laptop and shut it down. Disconnect the AC adapter as well as any other cables attached to your D5 31 latitude laptop (i.e. an external keyboard, mouse or an external monitor).
2.Locate the small indent on the right side of the hinge cover. Use a scribe and a flathead screwdriver to pry out the hinge cover and remove it.
3.Remove the three screws at the top of the keyboard with the Phillips screwdriver. Lift up on the keyboard so that you can access the connector cable. Remove the connector cable and the keyboard from the laptop.
4.Ground yourself by a touching a metal connector inside of the computer with one of your bare hands. This will help prevent electrostatic discharge inside the computer.
5.Locate the memory slot. If you are replacing a memory module, remove the current module by pressing the securing clips outward. Then, lift up on the memory module and lifted out of the slot.
6.Align the small notch on the new memory module with the notch in the memory slot. Insert the new module firmly into the slot and hold it at about a 30 to 45 degree angle. Pivot the module downward until it snaps into place.
7.Replace the keyboard and hinge cover. Reinsert the battery and AC adapter. Start your computer as you normally would.
Installing Memory in the Slot on the Bottom of the Unit
1.Turn off your Dell laptop and shut it down. Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adapter. Remove any other cables connected to the laptop.2.Flip the Latitude D531 laptop over so that it is facing bottom side up. Locate the memory slot cover and use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the retaining screw. Set the memory slot cover aside.
3.Remove the current module if one is present.
4.Install the new memory module by aligning the notch on the contact edge of the module with the notch in the memory slot. Insert the new module into the slot at a 45-degree angle. Then, pivot the new module downward until it locks and snaps into place.
5.Replace the memory slot cover and the retaining screw. Reinsert the battery and connect the AC adapter. Connect any other cables to the computer and turn it back on.
